Tom Massey, HD 60 (Poncha Springs)

Tom MasseyState Rep. Tom Massey, R-Poncha Springs, is devoted to helping the citizens of his rural district.

Rep. Massey promotes pertinent issues that currently face many rural Coloradans, including economic development for rural communities, limited government with an emphasis on local control, improving the quality of public education, and the preservation and conservation of water resources.  He has worked to ensure quality and affordable access for health care for rural Coloradans.

For years, Rep. Massey has been actively involved in public service.  From 1994 – 2004 he served as a Trustee of Poncha Springs and a member of the Salida R-32-J School District School Board.

Before serving in the state legislature, Rep. Massey busied himself in the real estate world.  He was a broker/owner of Coldwell Banker Massey Real Estate Consultants in Salida, Monte Vista, South Fork, Alamosa and Forbes Park.  He is also a development partner in a small development company.

In 1999, the Chaffee County Board of Realtors elected Rep. Massey as “Realtor of the Year.”  Additionally, Rep. Massey served as vice president of government affairs for the Colorado Association of Realtors, also a strict and divisional VP, and was a member of the CML Policy Committee in 2002 and 2003.  His work in real estate also earned him awards such as the Political Service Award he received in 2003 by the Colorado Association of Realtors.

At the capitol, Rep. Massey serves as Chair of the House Education Committee and sits on the House Health and Environment Committee as well as the House Services Committee.

The representative and his wife, Becky, live in Poncha Springs with their three children.
