Looper’s Measure to Help Military Spouses Find Work Passes Committee

11looperDENVER—Today the House Economic and Business Development Committee unanimously passed a bill that clears the obstacles many military spouses encounter during their partner’s time of duty.

House Bill 1059 authorizes the wives and husbands of those serving in the Armed Forces to practice a regulated profession, other than real estate, in Colorado for up to one year if they are licensed, registered or certified to practice in another state.

“Military families sacrifice so much on the behalf of their country,” said Looper, R-Calhan. “This measure aims to help shoulder some of the burden they already carry and ease the process for those among them seeking employment in our state.”

Military families move an average of once every three years. Looper’s measure aims to ease their transition.

“Rep. Looper deserves to be commended for her dedicated work on behalf of our servicemen and women and their families,” said Terrance McWilliams, director of Military and Veteran Affairs at the El Pomar Foundation. “This bill will help put military families to work across Colorado.”
