State Rep. Mark Barker is the Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee and is a Member of the Transportation Committee. Rep. Barker joined the Colorado Springs Police Department and served from May of 1979 until November of 2003. During his tenure as a police officer, Rep. Barker worked in patrol, communications, special operations, bomb squad, arson investigation, and airport security operations. He attended many schools while a police officer, including Hazardous Devices School (Bomb school) at Redstone Arsenal, Al.; The National Fire Academy (Arson Investigation) at Emmetsburg, Md.; The FBI Academy (Bomb Squad Commanders); counter-terrorism seminars, defensive tactics and tactical schools.
